A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR ROSE SERIO SHEHEEN ON HER RETIREMENT AS PRINCIPAL OF BLANEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN ELGIN ON JUNE 30, 2004, AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO HER IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, on June 30, 2004, Rose Serio Sheheen will retire after twenty-five years of service to the public schools of this State and there is no doubt that she will be greatly missed by all those at Blaney Elementary School in Elgin; and

Whereas, earning her Baccalaureate Degree from St. Joseph's College in Emmitsburg, Maryland, Mrs. Sheheen returned to South Carolina, completing her Masters Degree at the University of South Carolina; and

Whereas, Mrs. Sheheen began her career in education as a fifth grade teacher and a teacher for the Gifted and Talented Program in the public school system of Kershaw County; and

Whereas, prior to working at Blaney Elementary, Mrs. Sheheen was the Administrator for the Teacher Incentive Program for the Kershaw County School District; and

Whereas, upon leaving the Kershaw County School District, Mrs. Sheheen began her fourteen-year tenure as the Principal at Blaney Elementary in Elgin; and

Whereas, in addition to her work at school, Mrs. Sheheen is very involved with her community, serving as a lector for Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Educational Sorority, and the South Carolina Association of School Administrators; and

Whereas, a former Vice President of the Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce, Mrs. Sheheen is also the former President of the Camden Junior Welfare League and a founding Board Member of the Camden-Kershaw County Child Care Center, as well as an educational consultant for the State Department of Education; and

Whereas, she is married to Fred R. Sheheen and together they have two daughters, Maria Spring and Margaret Bishop; a son, Vincent Sheheen; and seven grandchildren, William and Robert Spring; Joseph, Austin, and Anthony Sheheen; and David and Olivia Bishop; and

Whereas, Mrs. Sheheen is beloved by the parents, children, and staff of Blaney Elementary School and, although her presence as Principal will be sorely missed upon her retirement, she will never be far from their hearts. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor Rose Serio Sheheen on her retirement as Principal of Blaney Elementary School in Elgin on June 30, 2004, and extend best wishes to her in all her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Rose Serio Sheheen.
