The Senate assembled at 11:00 A.M., the hour to which it stood adjourned, and was called to order by the PRESIDENT.
A quorum being present, the proceedings were opened with a devotion by the Chaplain as follows:
Beloved, hear words from the Prophet Daniel, Chapter 10:18:
"Again the one who looked like a man touched me and gave me strength. He said, 'Do not be afraid, O man highly esteemed! Peace! Be strong now; be strong'!"
Let us pray.
God of our Fathers, we pray our special prayers this morning for our soldiers, sailors, Marines, Air Force, and all the mothers, fathers, children and families that will be sending loved ones into harm's way.
We pray for all in government who will be involved in the decisions that must be made in the days immediately before us, the Congress in Washington, and the governors and legislatures across this land, remembering the words of St. Paul to the Ephesians, "For our struggle is not against the enemies of blood and flesh, but against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil."
Father, help us prevail!
Amen.
