The Senate assembled at 11:00 A.M., the hour to which it stood adjourned, and was called to order by the PRESIDENT.
A quorum being present, the proceedings were opened with a devotion by the Chaplain as follows:
Beloved, St. Paul has some words about burden bearing... to the Galatians, Chapter 6:2, 5.
Verse 2, "Bear one another's burdens..."
Verse 5, "For all must carry their own loads."
Let us pray.
Our Father, our whole world, and we, here in our own country and State are faced with unusual stresses in burden bearing in our common life.
Our problems in a democracy are open to miserable consequences when we take the notion, "Everyman to himself, and the devil take the hindmost."
Help us to remember St. Paul in his admonitions when he wrote, "Bear you one another's burdens"... and "All must carry their own loads." (In the vernacular, "knapsack")
Amen.
