The Senate assembled at 10:00 A.M., the hour to which it stood adjourned, and was called to order by the PRESIDENT.
A quorum being present, the proceedings were opened with a devotion by the Chaplain as follows:
Beloved, do you know who you are? Listen to St. Peter, his First Epistle, Chapter 2:9:
"But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's own people, in order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light."
Let us pray.
Father, You have given us four honorific titles... a chosen race... a royal priesthood... a holy nation... God's own people.
We know you have given us those titles not to just make us feel good and important but to lay upon us a sense of a heavy burden of stewardship.
Furthermore, You were expressing Your confidence in us that You could depend on us to be faithful stewards in Your world.
Why? Because You called us "out of darkness" into Your "marvelous light."
Thank You, Father... show us the way.
Amen.
The PRESIDENT called for Petitions, Memorials, Presentments of Grand Juries and such like papers.
