A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR B. CARLISLE DRIGGERS FOR HIS OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP OF AND COMMITMENT TO THE SOUTH CAROLINA BAPTIST CONVENTION, AND TO WISH HIM ALL THE BEST UPON HIS RETIREMENT.

Whereas, Carlisle Driggers has given tirelessly of himself in furtherance of the South Carolina Baptist Convention, serving as its executive director for the past fifteen years; and

Whereas, a graduate of Mars Hill and Carson-Newman colleges as well as Southern Baptist Seminary and Pittsburgh Seminary, Mr. Driggers also holds honorary doctoral degrees from North Greenville and Charleston Southern universities; and

Whereas, before his work began with the South Carolina Baptist Convention, Mr. Driggers served as a minister of outreach and pastoral care at Northminster Baptist Church in Conyers, Georgia. He also worked at the former Home Mission Board, first as an associate director of the black church relations department and then as a regional coordinator for planning and budgeting for the eastern seaboard states; and

Whereas, in October 1991, Mr. Driggers was the unanimous choice to replace the then-existing executive director of the former General Board, as board members were impressed with his vision and enthusiasm in focusing on the strength of local churches in advancing the Baptist denomination and the Christian faith in South Carolina; and

Whereas, his vision led him to create and implement Empowering Kingdom Growth, a strategy for enhancing church growth. This plan gained national recognition and brought great honor to the South Carolina Baptist Convention when it was adopted as a strategy by the Southern Baptist Convention; and

Whereas, Mr. Driggers' leadership has led the South Carolina Baptist Convention to new heights, and though he will be greatly missed, he leaves the organization in excellent shape for a new executive director to carry on his vision. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor B. Carlisle Driggers for his outstanding leadership of and commitment to the South Carolina Baptist Convention, and wish him all the best upon his retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Carlisle Driggers.
