A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND THANK MRS. JULIE MERGO, STATE CAPITOL PARKING FACILITIES ADMINISTRATOR, FOR HER DEDICATED AND LOYAL SERVICE TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND FOR HER MANY INNOVATIVE ACCOMPLISHMENTS UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate have learned with deep regret that one of the most outstanding employees in state government, Mrs. Julie Mergo, State Capitol Parking Facilities Administrator, retired on March 31, 2006; and

Whereas, Julie Mergo exhibited great courage and ability during her almost twenty years with the Budget and Control Board, from September 2, 1986, until March 31, 2006, and performed her assigned duties with skill and dispatch; and

Whereas, her many accomplishments during her tenure as parking facilities administrator include:

(1)    initiating the payroll deduction program for all state employees leasing parking spaces as well as consolidating the billing process to her department;

(2)    utilizing a web site to share information;

(3)    upgrades and additions to the emergency telephone system located in the parking areas; and

(4)    establishing the "Agency Parking Coordinator" program. Each state agency's departments were assigned a contact person. Training was then provided to each coordinator designed to make parking issues easier on the employee and the agency with a faster end result; and

Whereas, the best way to describe Julie Mergo is "integrity". She is a first class citizen, a model state employee who cared deeply about her job and staff, and a friend to all who crossed her path; and

Whereas, the accomplishments of this truly wonderful lady are even more noteworthy due to the fact that she courageously dealt with health concerns during the period when she worked in state government but these concerns never got in the way of her doing her job; and

Whereas, the members of the Senate, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and thank Julie Mergo for a distinguished career which benefited so many people, and to extend to her very best wishes for a happy and enjoyable retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate commend and thank Mrs. Julie Mergo, State Capitol Parking Facilities Administrator, for her dedicated and loyal service to the State of South Carolina and for her many innovative accomplishments upon the occasion of her retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Julie Mergo.
