VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-43-40 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE GENERAL EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT (GED) TEST BATTERY MUST BE GIVEN IN ENGLISH AND SPANISH.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Chapter 43, Title 59 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 59-43-40. (A) The General Educational Development (GED) Test battery must be given in English and Spanish, and the State Board of Education shall issue a state high school diploma to eligible candidates who successfully complete the tests in either English or Spanish.
(B) The State Board of Education shall collaborate with the foreign language department of a public institution of higher learning to assist in the development of the GED in Spanish."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
