A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE MR. BOBBY D. BURCH OF GREENVILLE COUNTY FOR HIS TRIUMPH OVER ADVERSITY, TO COMMEND HIM FOR THE COUNTLESS WAYS THAT HE HAS IMPROVED HIS COMMUNITY, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Bobby D. Burch was born and spent his formative years in Durham, North Carolina, graduating from Hillside High School in 1959, and he went on to earn a degree in Management from Greenville Technical College; and

Whereas, Mr. Burch has enjoyed a happy marriage to Crystal Davis Burch for the past forty-one years and is the proud parent of two wonderful daughters, Janice and Jamila. With the help of God and his wife, he provided for both daughters' college educations without incurring any debt; and

Whereas, he began his career by serving in the United States Air Force, traveling abroad for four years. He then worked diligently in the United States Postal Service, retiring after twenty-six years. He was also employed at Christ Church Episcopal School as Coordinator of Community Outreach and Diversity for twelve years; and

Whereas, Mr. Burch is a much admired member of the community who has worked to strengthen Greenville County through his extensive civic contributions; and

Whereas, he has been a PTA Official at various Greenville County Schools for fifteen years, a PTSA President at Southside High School for three years, a Girl Scout Co-leader for eighteen years, involved with the Phillis Wheatley Repertoire Theatre for Youth for twenty-two years, on the Greenville County Recreation Commission for fifteen years, on the Greenville County Foster Care Review Board for eleven years, and a Big Brother/Big Sister of Phillis Wheatley for eleven years; and

Whereas, Mr. Burch served as President of the Greater Pleasant Valley Community Organization from 1996 to 2003, where he was able to secure funding of over two million dollars for a new child development center and a senior citizen/tutorial community building in Greenville County; and

Whereas, Mr. Burch was among the individuals who successfully petitioned the Greenville County Recreation Commission to spend over two million dollars to build the Lakeside County Park; and

Whereas, a faithful member of John Wesley United Methodist Church, Mr. Burch, with the help of his spouse, developed the "Breakfast for the Homeless" ministry, and he also serves as Secretary of the United Methodist Men and the Administrative Council; and

Whereas, Mr. Burch courageously has fought a battle with cancer for over three years, and with the help of God and his many friends throughout Greenville County, has triumphed over the too often tragic disease; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure and admiration that the members of the House of Representatives recognize Mr. Bobby D. Burch for the positive example he has set in his community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize Mr. Bobby D. Burch of Greenville County for his triumph over adversity, commend him for the countless way that he has improved his community, and wish him success and happiness in his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Bobby D. Burch.
