A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE DORMAN HIGH SCHOOL "LADY CAVALIERS" OF SPARTANBURG COUNTY ON THEIR SECOND CONSECUTIVE STATE AAAA VOLLEYBALL TITLE, AND HONOR THE PLAYERS AND COACH PAULA KIRKLAND ON THEIR UNDEFEATED 23-0 SEASON.

Whereas, the Dorman High School "Lady Cavaliers" of Spartanburg County capped their exceptional 2004 volleyball season with a victory over the Irmo High School "Lady Yellow Jackets" of Lexington County in the AAAA championship; and

Whereas, although the championship match was hard fought by both sides, Dorman's superior experience and front-line play proved to be the difference maker; and

Whereas, the Lady Cavaliers prevailed winning three straight games by scores of 25-17, 25-20, and 25-16 to take the match; and

Whereas, Dorman's front line, comprised of Lia Proctor, Sarah Lewis, and Jenna Cyrill, eventually wore down Irmo combining for thirty-five kills; and

Whereas, the members of the 2004 team also won many individual honors; and

Whereas, Sarah Lewis, Lia Proctor, Haley Bush, Kilee Ruppe, and Jenna Cyrill were named to the All-Region II AAAA team; and

Whereas, Sarah Lewis, Jenna Cyrill, Haley Bush, and Lia Proctor were named to the Spartanburg Herald Journal All-Area team; and

Whereas, Amy Fraley was named All-Area Academic by the Spartanburg Herald Journal; and

Whereas, Sarah Lewis and Haley Bush were named All-Stars by the South Carolina Coaches Association of Women's Sports while Sarah Lewis and Lia Proctor were selected for the All-State team; and

Whereas, Prep Volleyball.com placed Lia Proctor on their All-American roster; and

Whereas, Coach Kirkland was named Volleyball Coach of the Year by the Spartanburg Herald Journal; and

Whereas, this win marks the tenth state title for Dorman High School and Coach Paula Kirkland, tying a record for most state titles by a coach, and truly solidifying the Lady Cavaliers as the dominant power in AAAA Volleyball. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives congratulate the Dorman High School "Lady Cavaliers" of Spartanburg County on their 2004 State AAAA Volleyball title, and honor the players and Coach Paula Kirkland on their exceptional season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Head Coach Paula Kirkland on behalf of the championship team.
