A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND MR. HERBERT BRYSON SCHLOSS OF MYRTLE BEACH FOR HIS SERVICE AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE OCEAN VIEW MEMORIAL FOUNDATION, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH HAPPINESS IN HIS RETIREMENT.

Whereas, Herbert Bryson Schloss was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to Herbert and Marian Smith Schloss; and

Whereas, after a renowned high school basketball career at Johnstown High School, Mr. Schloss went on to join the United States Navy in 1943, where he served aboard the SC 1277, a submarine chaser, as a radio operator; and

Whereas, never giving up on his basketball dreams, in 1946, Mr. Schloss entered Saint Francis College in Loretto, Pennsylvania, where he had a promising basketball future until an ankle injury sidelined him during his sophomore season. In pursuit of another promising future, Mr. Schloss continued with his studies and graduated in 1950 with a B.S. in Accounting and minors in English and Economics; and

Whereas, Mr. Schloss married Rita Miscoe on December 28, 1951, and they have two children, Greta S. Shealy of Columbia and Raymond J. Schloss of Bristow, Virginia, and six grandchildren; and

Whereas, in 1951, Mr. Schloss joined the Bethlehem Mines Corporation, a subsidiary of Bethlehem Steel Corporation, in the accounting department. Over the next thirty years of his employment, Mr. Schloss worked his way up to Chief Accountant for Bethlehem Mines, the position he held upon his retirement in 1981; and

Whereas, Mr. and Mrs. Schloss retired to Myrtle Beach in 1981, and in 1987, he became the Executive Director of the Ocean View Memorial Foundation, where he could guide the hands of the foundation to do so much good for the Grand Strand Community; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure and admiration that the members of the House of Representatives commend Mr. Herbert Bryson Schloss for his outstanding years of service as Executive Director of the Ocean View Memorial Foundation. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and commend Mr. Herbert Bryson Schloss of Myrtle Beach for his service as Executive Director of the Ocean View Memorial Foundation, and wish him much happiness in his retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Herbert Bryson Schloss of Myrtle Beach.
