A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE TYRON STUCKS MCFARLAND, JR. OF THE CITY OF COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA ON BEING NAMED THE THIRTY-FOURTH RINGMASTER FOR THE 135TH EDITION OF THE RINGLING BROTHERS AND BARNUM & BAILEY CIRCUS, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS DURING THIS YEAR'S TOUR OF THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH.

Whereas, hailing from Columbia, South Carolina, Tyron Stucks McFarland, Jr., is the son of a retired chief warrant officer and a third-grade school teacher; and

Whereas, during his high school years, Tyron played the trumpet in several honors bands, discovered a talent for singing and performing, and belonged to a local alternative rhythm and blues group; and

Whereas, following in his family footsteps, Tyron enlisted in the Army National Guard on a conditional basis at sixteen years of age, completed advance training while attending the University of South Carolina, and, after graduating with a degree in criminal justice and a desire to become an attorney, ultimately attained the rank of Captain; and

Whereas, after college, Tyron found himself drawn to Columbia's Workshop Theater. Over the next few years, he performed in Workshop Theater's productions of Ragtime, Smokey Joe's Café, Jesus Christ Superstar, and other productions; and

Whereas, he also ventured into modeling and commercial work, and portrayed one of Ford Motor Company's "Tough Guys" in its F-150 advertising campaign; and

Whereas, in 2004, while performing in the musical Showboat at Circa '21 Dinner Playhouse in Rock Island, Illinois, he became interested in auditioning for the role as Ringmaster for the Greatest Show on Earth; and

Whereas, Tyron describes his good fortune in being selected as the circus's thirty-fourth Ringmaster as an occasion to "celebrate life" and looks forward to sharing his excitement with his three-year-old daughter, Nymah, who will visit him on the road throughout the show's tour; and

Whereas, it is fitting and proper for the members of the House of Representatives to recognize the accomplishments of this outstanding son of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate Tyron Stucks McFarland, Jr., of the City of Columbia, South Carolina on being named the thirty-fourth Ringmaster for the 135th Edition of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus, and to wish him much success during this year's tour of the Greatest Show on Earth.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Tyron Stucks McFarland, Jr., Ringmaster of the Greatest Show on Earth.
