VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE HORTON'S PHARMACY ON THE OCCASION OF ITS CLOSING AND EXPRESS GRATITUDE TO HENRY AND WEEZIE CLINKSCALES FOR SERVING THE BELTON COMMUNITY.
Whereas, with mixed emotions, the members of the House of Representatives have learned that Henry and Weezie Clinkscales closed the doors to Horton's Pharmacy, in Belton, on Saturday, October 9, 2004; and
Whereas, the closing marks the end for a business that has proudly served the people of Belton for more than a century, in the process becoming an integral part of the city's culture; and
Whereas, a lifetime of working at the store has ended for David King and Patsy Smith who consider the store's owners and customers just like family; and
Whereas, the pharmacy was founded by Millard Horton, the brother-in-law of Henry Clinkscales' father. Charles Clinkscales, Henry's brother, worked at the store until his death in 1986; and
Whereas, the closing will, however, give way to a new generation of Clinkscales as Henry's son, Hank, is opening "Clinkscales Drugs" on Anderson Street, continuing the family business; and
Whereas, generation after generation of local residents fondly remember walking the isles of Horton's as their parents waited to fill prescriptions; and
Whereas, since the closing's announcement, many residences have expressed warm memories of the store, its employees, and owners all of whom will be greatly missed. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representative recognize Horton's Pharmacy on the occasion of its closing and express their gratitude to Henry and Weezie Clinkscales for serving the Belton Community.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Henry and Weezie Clinkscales.
