A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING THE JEFFERSON DAVIS ACADEMY "RAIDERS" FOOTBALL TEAM OF BAMBERG COUNTY ON THEIR 2004 SCISAA CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, AND HONORING THE PLAYERS AND HEAD COACH JOEY LOTT ON THEIR IMPRESSIVE 13-1 SEASON.

Whereas, the Jefferson Davis Academy "Raiders" of Bamberg County capped their outstanding 2004 football season by taking the SCISAA Class A Eight-man State Title with a 34-14 win over St. John's Christian Academy; and

Whereas, the hard-fought victory was truly a team effort on both the offense and defense; and

Whereas, during the first half of the Championship game, the "Raiders" commanded an impressive twenty-eight points, with the defense holding St. John's to just six points, and the second half proved to be just as exciting as Jefferson Davis Academy brought home the win; and

Whereas, leading the "Raiders" on offense was Matt Adams, who threw for 137 yards and four touchdowns, and Jonathan Hall who rushed for 151 yards and one touchdown; and

Whereas, the 2004 Jefferson Davis "Raiders" finished the season with a 13-1 record and outscored their opponents by a 599-83 point margin, making it to the semi-finals for the second straight year; and

Whereas, for his hand in the 2004 season, Head Coach Joey Lott was selected as the 2004 Advertizer-Herald Area Coach of the Year. Coach Lott worked tirelessly throughout the year and in seasons past with the "Raiders" football program pushing the players to excel; and

Whereas, Coach Lott was aided by assistant coaches Boots Camp, Tal Fickling, Curt Holcombe, and Kevin Webster; and

Whereas, members of this Championship team are David Kanagy, Chesley Bell, Jedd Templeton, Denver Sandifer, Jonathan Hall, Drew Clark, Shane McAlhaney, Matt Adams, Adam Owensby, Sam West, Matt Still, TJ Hutson, Randall Peagler, Brian Williams, John Owens, Brad Carrigg, Taylor Murphy, Barrett Breland, Geordie Griffith, Shank Collins, Dane Byrd, Robert Cooper, Ben Kirkland, Josh Bolen, Patrick Templeton, Thomas Bell, Jeremy Roland, and Cory Dukes; and

Whereas, this outstanding finish for the Jefferson Davis Academy Football Team signifies that Coach Lott's "Raiders" are truly a power in South Carolina football. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the Jefferson Davis Academy "Raiders" of Bamberg County on their 2004 SCISAA Class A State Championship, and honor the players and Head Coach Joey Lott on their impressive 13-1 season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Jefferson Davis Academy Championship Football Team and Head Coach Joey Lott.
