A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND MRS. JUDY HIX, WHO RETIRED DECEMBER 31, 2004, AS GREENVILLE COUNTY REGISTER OF DEEDS, FOR HER OUTSTANDING THIRTY-SEVEN YEAR CAREER IN COUNTY GOVERNMENT AND FOR HER MANY CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE CITIZENS OF GREENVILLE COUNTY.

Whereas, Mrs. Judy Hix is one of the most outstanding public servants ever to have worked in local government in the State of South Carolina; and

Whereas, Judy Hix began her career in county government in 1967 in the Oconee County Auditor's Office where she worked for five years. In 1972, she married Ron Hix, her husband of thirty-two years, and moved to Greenville County; and

Whereas, she began work in the Register of Deeds office for Greenville County in September 1972, and worked her way up to the position of Deputy Register of Deeds. She held that position for twelve years. In November 1996, she was elected Register of Deeds and was re-elected in November 2000. After thirty-seven years in county government, she retired on December 31, 2004; and

Whereas, she has been instrumental in developing one of the best Register of Deeds offices in the State. Her employees, peers, and patrons have recognized her as an outstanding leader in Greenville County government; and

Whereas, she has initiated many innovative processes to improve services provided for Greenville County. Most recently, she set in motion the Internet Access to Public Records Project which will eventually provide online access to all county property records. This project will save the county millions of dollars while enhancing services provided to the taxpayers; and

Whereas, public service is a high and honorable calling and few people have ever discharged their duties and kept the public trust as well as Judy Hix; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and thank this truly lovely lady for her contributions to Greenville County and its citizens upon the occasion of her retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly commend Mrs. Judy Hix, who retired December 31, 2004, as Greenville County Register of Deeds, for her outstanding thirty-seven year career in county government and for her many contributions to the citizens of Greenville County.
