A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF SIENNA RESTAURANT AND ITS EXECUTIVE CHEF KEN VEDRINSKI OF DANIEL ISLAND ON THE OCCASION OF ITS ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION.

Whereas, in March 2004, after years of proven successful ventures and award winning validations, Executive Chef Ken Vedrinski, award-winning former executive chef of the dinning room at Woodland's Resort and Inn, partnered with Andy Selent, the owner of Trio Club and Henry's, two of Charleston's most popular night life establishments, and opened Sienna, a contemporary Italian restaurant in the heart of downtown Daniel Island; and

Whereas, a native of Columbus, Ohio, Ken Vedrinski's professional career began when he received a degree in Restaurant Management from Columbus College and a three-year apprenticeship under Certified Master Chef Hartmut Handke. He has also received an honorary doctorate degree in Culinary Arts from Johnson & Wales University; and

Whereas, Sienna was selected by Esquire magazine as one of the "Top 20 New Restaurants of the Year" in 2004, with food critic John Mariani stating that Sienna was the #1 new restaurant for cooking; and

Whereas, David Rosengarten, one of the word's foremost authorities on food, wine, and cooking referred to Vedrinski's food as "smartly creative Italian food with a sassy spin from the American South"; and

Whereas, Diversion Magazine, a travel and lifestyle magazine for physicians, featured Sienna in January 2005 as one of the "nation's hottest restaurants in 2005", applauding Chef Vedrinski's food as "every bit as good as that served in a fine restaurant in Milan, Turin, or Bologna"; and

Whereas, in an inventive approach to Italian cuisine, the centerpiece of Sienna, designed to accommodate over one hundred patrons, is an offset kitchen with counter-seating providing patrons an intimate view of Vedrinski's style and techniques; and

Whereas, Sienna Restaurant has proven itself to be a prized addition to Daniel Island, the City of Charleston, and the State of South Carolina, bringing in patrons from around the World; and

Whereas, it is fitting and proper for the members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations to honor, and recognize Sienna Restaurant and its Executive Chef Ken Vedrinski. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, honor and recognize the accomplishments of Sienna Restaurant, and its Executive Chef Ken Vedrinski, of Daniel Island and give their best wishes on the occasion of the restaurant's anniversary celebration.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Executive Chef Ken Vedrinski.
