A HOUSE RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING THE HUNTER-KINARD-TYLER BOYS "TROJANS" BASKETBALL TEAM ON WINNING THE 2005 CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN A VERY IMPRESSIVE FASHION, BREAKING THE SCORING RECORD IN A CHAMPIONSHIP GAME WITH ONE HUNDRED POINTS, AND HONORING THE PLAYERS, HEAD COACH ARIC SAMUELS, AND ASSISTANT COACH KEVIN WRIGHT ON THEIR IMPRESSIVE 23-4 SEASON.

Whereas, on Saturday, March 5, 2005, the Hunter-Kinard-Tyler Boys "Trojans" basketball team completed a state championship sweep by following the "Lady Trojans" state championship victory with a 100-89 victory over Hemmingway in the Class A State Championship; and

Whereas, the win capped an impressive 23-4 season for the Trojans who were also Region 4-Class A Co-Champions; and

Whereas, the Trojans set the tone early for the championship game by blasting out to a 50-31 half-time lead; and

Whereas, Coach Aric Samuels followed up this performance by unleashing his "second starting five" which continued applying smooth full court defense eventually wearing down Hemmingway; and

Whereas, Hemmingway clawed back to within nine points but the Trojans responded with a 10-2 run putting the game permanently out of reach; and

Whereas, exhibiting tremendous hard work and team dedication all season, the boys championship basketball team includes: Ecorie Schofield, Tim James, Antonio James, William Brimfield, Cruz Casteal, David Smith, Rashad Hay, Walter James, Sandy Jamison, Bandon Pough, Derrick Robinson, David Jenkins, Ervin Wise, Detrek Smith, and Kye Smith. This championship team was superbly trained and coached by Head Coach Aric Samuels and Assistant Coach Kevin Wright; and

Whereas, the accomplishments of the Trojans on and off the court this season have brought deserved credit and recognition not only upon themselves but upon their school and community as well; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are proud of take this opportunity to congratulate the 2005 Hunter-Kinard-Tyler Boys "Trojans" basketball team on their championship and commend them for their good example to others and a job well done. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, hereby congratulate the Hunter-Kinard-Tyler Boys "Trojans" Basketball team on winning the 2005 Class A State Championship in a very impressive fashion, breaking the scoring record in a championship game with one hundred points, and honor the players, Head Coach Aric Samuels, and Assistant Coach Kevin Wright on their impressive 23-4 season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Hunter-Kinard-Tyler Boys "Trojans" basketball team.
