VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO HONOR AND CONGRATULATE THE MEMBERS OF DUNN'S CHAPEL OF WEST COLUMBIA AS THEY CELEBRATE THEIR ONE HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY, AND TO COMMEND THE PRESENT AND FORMER PASTORS, MEMBERS, AND FRIENDS OF THIS WONDERFUL HOUSE OF WORSHIP FOR A CENTURY OF FAITHFULNESS, SERVICE, AND REVERENCE FOR GOD.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to learn that Dunn's Chapel in West Columbia will celebrate one hundred years of God's faithfulness as it conducts its centennial celebration on April 24, 2005;
Whereas, the purpose statement of Dunn's Chapel is "Glorifying God by reaching all people and teaching them to follow Christ by growing in faith, love, and service, all by the empowering of the Holy Spirit"; and
Whereas, Dunn's Chapel was organized in Lexington County in 1905 with the first church building erected on land, which is now in the Town of South Congaree, that was purchased from John J. Smith and named in honor of Reverend Mitchell Dunn, President of the South Carolina Methodist Protestant Church; and
Whereas, in 1934 a new church building was erected at the site of the original building, and in 1940 Dunn's Chapel became a member of the Southern Methodist Conference, and became a member of the Evangelical Methodist Conference in 1964; and
Whereas, construction was started on a new church building on its present Chapel Road site in 1968 and was dedicated on May 25, 1969, and
Whereas, the present parsonage was built in 1971, the gymnasium building was erected in 1973, and in 1974 Dunn's Chapel withdrew from the Evangelical Methodist Conference to become an independent Bible-teaching church; and
Whereas, Dunn's Chapel has dedicated itself to the spiritual training of children, youth, and adults for the purpose of creating responsible, productive citizens of the community; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly would like to extend their congratulations and best wishes to this outstanding place of worship as it celebrates its one hundredth anniversary. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved, that the members of the House of Representatives, honor and congratulate the members of Dunn's Chapel of West Columbia as they celebrate their one hundredth anniversary, and commend the present and former pastors, members, and friends of this wonderful house of worship for a century of faithfulness, service, and reverence for God.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Reverend Tom Atten, Pastor of Dunn's Chapel.
