A HOUSE RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING AND HONORING LAURA BEAUVAIS-GODWIN FOR HER DEDICATION AND SERVICE ASSISTING COUPLES AND PLACING CHILDREN IN CARING HOMES THROUGH HER CAROLINA HOPE CHRISTIAN ADOPTION AGENCY, AND WISHING HER CONTINUED SUCCESS IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, through the vision and commitment of Laura Beauvais-Godwin hundreds of children in great need of a loving and caring home have been placed with nurturing parents; and

Whereas, Mrs. Beauvais-Godwin, a native a New Haven, Connecticut, is a beloved spouse to Raymond W. Godwin. The couple are the proud and loving parents of two daughters, Erika and Elizabeth; and

Whereas, Mrs. Beauvais-Godwin attended nursing school at St. Raphael in New Haven, Connecticut, and after one year transferred to Bob Jones University. She went on to attain her Masters of Public Health Degree in 1983 from the University of South Carolina; and

Whereas, while her daughters were young, Mrs. Beauvais-Godwin stayed home with them and assisted her husband with his adoption law practice. This began her deep involvement in the field of adoption; and

Whereas, she worked for the South Carolina Department of Social Services from 1995-1999 where she served as an adoption specialist and consultant assisting in the placement of children in the foster care system. She also conducted home studies and pre-adoption group training for adoptive couples and volunteered for the Guardian ad Litem program representing children from the Department of Social Services in court; and

Whereas, in 1998 Mrs. Beauvais-Godwin began the Carolina Hope Christian Adoption Agency, which specializes in inter-country adoptions from Guatemala, China, Cambodia, Eastern Europe, and several other countries; and

Whereas, while the agency focuses chiefly on overseas adoptions, Mrs. Beauvais-Godwin also does some domestic placements. In 2002 alone the agency placed one hundred sixty children from various countries around the world that would have been reared in seriously understaffed orphanages or foster homes. Instead, these children will be reared by loving parents with their every need provided for; and

Whereas, the agency has a nationwide reputation and continues to assist couples in completing their families by operating in a professional and ethical manner. With her husband, she has written two popular books on the subject of adoption, reflecting their extensive experience and positive attitude toward adoption, which have been instrumental in encouraging numerous couples to adopt; and

Whereas, Mrs. Beauvais-Godwin's accomplishments will continue to pay dividends for the children and parents she assists well into the future, the members of the House of Representatives would like to publicly thank Mrs. Beauvais-Godwin. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, hereby recognize and honor Laura Beauvais-Godwin for her dedication and service assisting couples and placing children in caring homes through her Carolina Hope Christian Adoption Agency, and wish her continued success in all her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Laura Beauvais-Godwin.
