A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING THE GAFFNEY HIGH SCHOOL "INDIANS" BASKETBALL TEAM OF SPARTANBURG COUNTY ON THEIR 2005 SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS AAAA STATE TITLE, AND HONORING THE PLAYERS AND COACH MARK HUFF ON THEIR IMPRESSIVE SEASON.

Whereas, the Gaffney High School "Indians" of Spartanburg County capped their outstanding 2005 basketball season by taking the Class AAAA state title with a 54-51 win over the Marlboro County "Bulldogs"; and

Whereas, the hard-fought victory was truly a team effort and was not decided until the final moments of the game, with the Indians taking the lead with only two minutes and twenty-one seconds left in the game; and

Whereas, of particular note, Indians player Phillip Buckson scored 15 points and Julius Wilkerson scored 14 points with 13 rebounds, with 11 of those points in the second half of the game, including the free throw that put the Indians ahead; and

Whereas, this season is the third in a row in which the Indians have won the State AAAA Championship, becoming the first boy's basketball team in South Carolina history to achieve this honor and ending the season with a 27-1 record and a three-year record of 81-3; and

Whereas, the Indians also finished the season ranked Number One in the Nation in the Hoops USA Traditional Poll, and were named its National Champion, becoming the first South Carolina High School team to receive this honor; and

Whereas, this outstanding finish for the Gaffney High School Basketball Team signifies that Coach Huff's "Indians" are truly the team to beat in high school basketball. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate the Gaffney High School "Indians" of Spartanburg County on their 2005 South Carolina Class AAAA State title, and honor the players and Coach Huff on their impressive season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Gaffney High School Basketball Coach Mark Huff on behalf of the championship team.
