A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY UPON THE DEATH OF MS. MOZELLE J. SIMPKINS, OF JACKSON, SOUTH CAROLINA, ON APRIL 15, 2005, AND TO CONVEY DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were deeply saddened by the death of Ms. Mozelle J. Simpkins of Jackson, South Carolina, on Friday, April 15, 2005, and her gentle spirit, kind acts, and warm heart will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and her community; and

Whereas, the fifth of eight children, Mozelle Simpkins was born to the late Jim and Rena Simpkins in Jackson, South Carolina; and

Whereas, a devout Christian, Ms. Simpkins remained committed to Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, living her life in accordance with scriptural teachings and principles, and serving as a community role model for upright living and faithful service; and

Whereas, she touched countless lives as an educator in Waynesboro, Georgia, Calhoun Falls, and North Augusta, retiring from the Aiken County School System in 1984, and having earned degrees herself from Benedict College and South Carolina State University; and

Whereas, truly devoted to her family and friends, Ms. Simpkins was always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a supportive ear to those who needed her encouragement or advice, her soothing nature a constant comfort for those who knew her; and

Whereas, Ms. Simpkins is survived by her sister, Marie Boston Johnson, and brother Jim Simpkins, both of North Augusta, and Mary Simpkins and Andrew Simpkins, both of Jackson, and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Ms. Simpkins is sorely missed, but always will be remembered as a truly lovely woman who possessed great character and grace. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow at the passing of Mozelle J. Simpkins of Jackson on April 15, 2005, and convey their deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Ms. Mozelle J. Simpkins.
