A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE BAMBERG-EHRHARDT GOLF TEAM ON ITS CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS AND THEIR COACH, GENE WILLIAMS, ON THEIR EXCEPTIONAL SEASON.

Whereas, the Bamberg-Ehrhardt "Red Raiders" capped their impressive 2005 season by capturing the Class A State Championship title; and

Whereas, the championship and incredible season were made possible through hard work, before and during the season, by the players, coach, and trainers; and

Whereas, this championship was truly extraordinary, as it marked the first state title for the Red Raiders golfers since 1977 and first Class A title in the history of the school; and

Whereas, led by senior Allen Koon, who won the individual title by fifteen strokes and who will be playing for the University of South Carolina in the fall, the team edged out main competitor Christ Church by three strokes; and

Whereas, other exceptional members of the team include Dalton Cornforth, who came in second in individual competition, and Kearse Azzarelli, Brock Rhoad, Trey Welch, and Gregory Clark; and

Whereas, the Red Raider golfers have remained tirelessly dedicated to their sport, pushing themselves to perfect their strokes and encouraging each other to perform better as individuals and as a cohesive unit; and

Whereas, though modestly claiming, "I just drive the bus; they go out to play and win," coach Gene Williams has served as an outstanding role model and motivator for the Red Raider team, and is a favorite for Coach of the Year honors for Class A golf this season; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the members of the House of Representatives recognize such exceptional talent and determination embodied in the young men of the Red Raider golf team. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the Bamberg-Ehrhardt golf team on its Class A State Championship, and honor the players and their coach, Gene Williams, on their exceptional season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Gene Williams on behalf of the Bamberg-Ehrhardt golf team.
