A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE BYRNES HIGH SCHOOL LADY REBELS SOFTBALL TEAM OF SPARTANBURG COUNTY ON ITS IMPRESSIVE WIN OF THE STATE AAAA CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND TO RECOGNIZE THE PLAYERS AND THEIR COACH, DEBBIE HOLCOMBE, ON THEIR EXCEPTIONAL SEASON.

Whereas, the Byrnes High School Lady Rebels sent fans to their feet as they capped the 2005 season with a win against Stratford High School, securing their place as AAAA State Champions; and

Whereas, the hard-fought victory was truly a team effort, and was not decided until the ninth inning when Lindsay Cash belted a three-run home run to give the Lady Rebels an 8-4 lead; and

Whereas, pitcher Amber Patterson never lost faith in the strength of the members of her team and their unique ability to work together as a cohesive unit, though surrendering back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the sixth inning; and

Whereas, outstanding hitting secured the win by seniors Lindsay Cash and Amber Patterson, who hit a three-run and a one-run home run, respectively; and

Whereas, this title truly has been a long time coming for the girls, as some members of the team have worked four and five years to achieve this ultimate distinction; and

Whereas, though the Byrnes players are used to games being close and coming from behind in final innings to clench a win, one player describes the Stratford state final game as "the most memorable game" that she has ever played in; and

Whereas, it is with great pride that the members of the General Assembly commend the members of the Byrnes High School Softball Team for its incredible effort and dedication spent in the love of their sport, and recognize them as true models for all South Carolina student athletes. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the Byrnes High School Lady Rebels Softball Team of Spartanburg County on its impressive win of the State AAAA Championship Title, and recognize the players and their coach, Debbie Holcombe, for an exceptional season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the players, coaches, and school officials of the Byrnes High School Softball Team.
