VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 47-1-65 SO AS TO MAKE IT UNLAWFUL FOR A PERSON TO ABANDON A DOG ON PUBLIC OR CERTAIN PRIVATE PROPERTY.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Chapter 1, Title 47 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 47-1-65. A person who is the owner or possessor or having charge or custody of a dog and who abandons the dog or leaves it in a street, road, highway, or other public place or private property not owned or rented by the person is guilty of a felony and, upon conviction, must be fined not more than one thousand dollars or imprisoned not more than three years."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
