A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE SOUTHSIDE HIGH SCHOOL OF GREENVILLE COUNTY FOR BEING RANKED NUMBER ONE HUNDRED FIFTY-FIVE IN NEWSWEEK'S LIST OF THE TOP ONE THOUSAND PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOLS IN THE NATION.

Whereas, of all the public high schools in the United States, Southside High School was ranked at one hundred fifty-five in Newsweek's top one thousand public high schools in the nation; and

Whereas, schools in the Newsweek ranking were judged according to a ratio that included the number of Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate tests taken by all students at the school in 2004, divided by the number of graduating seniors; and

Whereas, being ranked at an incredible one hundred fifty-fifth put Southside High School at the top of the list for Greenville County, which had other Greenville County high schools in the Newsweek top one thousand and at the top in South Carolina; and

Whereas, this well deserved honor makes Southside the standard to meet for public high schools in South Carolina, and is testament to the hard work of students and teachers. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives congratulate Southside High School of Greenville County on being ranked one hundred fifty-five in Newsweek's list of the top one thousand public high schools in the nation.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Ms. Paulette Payne, Principal of Southside High School.
