Whereas, the South Carolina State Firemen's Association was founded on May 30, 1905, in Columbia, South Carolina; and

Whereas, the members of the Firemen's Association diligently work to protect the lives and property of the citizens of South Carolina from fire and rescue emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, natural disasters, and acts of terror; and

Whereas, the Firemen's Association has worked to develop member benefits programs to recruit and retain volunteer firefighters and has grown to an organization with over sixteen thousand trained members who risk their lives to protect the citizens of South Carolina; and

Whereas, over the last one hundred years the Firemen's Association has developed member benefits programs for insurance, retirement, and training to support the men and women who work and volunteer in the South Carolina Fire Service; and

Whereas, the Firemen's Association has established a great legislative program and has worked with all the members of the General Assembly to pass laws that support the firefighters and further protect South Carolina and provide state-funded benefits in support of volunteer firefighters; and

Whereas, after one hundred years of dedicated service to the South Carolina Fire Service, the Firemen's Association will celebrate a new century of service by changing its name to the South Carolina State Firefighters Association and continuing a tradition of great service; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to recognize the substantial contribution of this group of dedicated men and women who work tirelessly to assist the citizens of South Carolina. They consistently demonstrate their commitment and dedication to the service of mankind. They certainly serve as a prime example of just what makes America great. Now, therefore,
