A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND CHRISTEL DEHAAN, FOUNDER OF CHRISTEL HOUSE INTERNATIONAL, FOR HER EXTRAORDINARY WORK IN REMEDYING SOCIAL ILLS AND TO CELEBRATE THE ORGANIZATION'S FUNDRAISER, THE MYRTLE BEACH CHRISTEL HOUSE OPEN, TO BE HELD ON JUNE 13, 2005.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the South Carolina House of Representatives honors those individuals who freely give of their time and resources for the good of their individual communities as public servants, working tirelessly to promote programs that will make a tremendous difference in the lives of those who need it most; and

Whereas, Christel DeHaan, philanthropist and visionary, launched her public charity, Christel House, in 1998 to help children break the cycle of poverty to become self-sufficient, contributing members of their societies; and

Whereas, truly embodying her personal motto, "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime", Ms. DeHann has achieved scores of awards and recognition for her work in public charity, including the Kiwanis International World Service Award and the Social Capital Entrepreneur of the Year Award, and was also named one of America's Top 20 Women Business Owners; and

Whereas, operating high social-impact learning centers in impoverished neighborhoods, the Christel House Foundation provides education, nutritious meals, life skills training, and character development to children born into poverty; and

Whereas, living by the Christel House credo, children learn the key values of respect, responsibility, independence, and integrity, all the while developing a passion for learning and maximizing their own potential; and

Whereas, on June 13, 2005, golfers will compete in thirty different "Tier One" charity golf tournaments taking place on five separate continents, one of which will be held at South Carolina's own Pine Lakes International Country Club in Myrtle Beach; and

Whereas, the Myrtle Beach Christel House Open will surely raise a significant amount of funds for this outstanding charity, with one hundred twenty golfers already signed up to play; and

Whereas, the State of South Carolina as a whole is proud to be hosting such a worthwhile event, and honors those committed to the furtherance of the Christel House International charity for their exceptional efforts in educating young minds and bettering the lives of children in need. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend Christel DeHaan, founder of Christel House International, for her extraordinary work in remedying social ills and celebrate the organization's fundraiser, the Myrtle Beach Christel House Open, to be held on June 13, 2005.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Christel House International's founder, Ms. Christel DeHaan.
