A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND CONGRATULATE ROSEWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN YORK COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 3 FOR BEING RECOGNIZED BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA EDUCATION OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE FOR HAVING CLOSED THE ACHIEVEMENT GAP AMONG STUDENTS OF DIFFERING ECONOMIC, RACIAL, AND ETHNIC GROUPS.

Whereas, the South Carolina Education Oversight Committee has recognized Rosewood Elementary School in York County School District No. 3 for having met the criteria for closing the gap among students of differing economic, racial, and ethnic groups; and

Whereas, Rosewood Elementary School was one of the one hundred thirty-two out of eight hundred thirty-three elementary and middle schools from across the State that achieved this important distinction; and

Whereas, Rosewood Elementary School earned this prestigious recognition by first enrolling at least thirty students from the historically underachieving economic, racial, or ethnic groups. This group then had to meet or exceed the seventy-fifth percentile of performance of all students statewide in either English language arts or mathematics and the school had to meet the requirements for Adequate Yearly Progress for all students and for the group; and

Whereas, this acknowledgement is the result of hard work on the part of the students, teachers, administrators, and staff at Rosewood Elementary School and shows the importance of diversity and achievement at Rosewood; and

Whereas, awards like this focus on the success of schools in our State and are designed to inspire greater confidence in the system's ability to meet the challenges ahead; and

Whereas, through this important distinction, Rosewood Elementary becomes a standard bearer among elementary and middle schools in South Carolina and brings great credit to York County and the State as a whole. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor and congratulate Rosewood Elementary School in York County School District No. 3 for being recognized by the South Carolina Education Oversight Committee for having closed the achievement gap among students of differing economic, racial, and ethnic groups.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Rosewood Elementary School Principal in York County School District No. 3.
