A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND SARAH HANNAH NEWMAN OF KERSHAW COUNTY FOR HER OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS AND CONTRIBUTIONS TO HER SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY, AND TO WISH HER THE BEST IN ALL FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, a truly remarkable young woman, Sarah Hannah Newton has excelled in every facet of her life as a high school student, possessing a rare blend of exceptional dedication to academic achievement and extracurricular involvement; and

Whereas, while maintaining the highest grade point average in her graduating class from Camden High School, Sarah Hannah still finds time to give tirelessly of herself in volunteering at local elementary schools, Relay for Life, and the First Lady's Walk for Life; and

Whereas, Sarah Hannah has shown a veritable gift for leadership, as she served as president of her freshman, sophomore, and junior classes and was awarded the West Point Leadership Award, the Kodak Young Leaders Award, and the Principal's Leadership Award; and

Whereas, showing an interest in state government, Sarah Hannah was a participant of Palmetto Girls' State where she was elected to City Council and to the Senate. She even aspires to run for the South Carolina House or Senate one day; and

Whereas, passionate about public speaking, Sarah Hannah is the two-time winner of the E. Michael Sheheen oratorical contest sponsored by the American Legion and also won the Voice of Democracy speech contest by the Veterans of Foreign Wars; and

Whereas, Sarah Hannah remains unmatched in her great talent, poise, and beauty as she was chosen winner of the South Carolina Junior Miss Pageant and will represent South Carolina in the national pageant in June; and

Whereas, Sarah Hannah will continue on in making great contributions to her school and community when she attends Wofford College in Fall 2006; and

Whereas, the General Assembly shares in her parents' pride and regards Sarah Hannah as an accomplished young woman who serves as a role model for many other South Carolina public school students. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and commend Sarah Hannah Newman of Kershaw County for her outstanding achievements and contributions to her school and community, and wish her the best in all future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Sarah Hannah Newman on the House floor on January 10, 2006 at a time to be determined by the Speaker.
