A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE MRS. LILLIE PATTON DEVLIN, A LIFELONG RESIDENT OF GREENWOOD COUNTY, ON THE OCCASION OF HER NINETIETH BIRTHDAY AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO HER FOR MANY MORE TO COME.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to learn that Mrs. Lillie Patton Devlin, a lifetime resident of Greenwood County, will celebrate her ninetieth birthday on April 13, 2006; and

Whereas, this wonderful lady is a caring wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, excellent homemaker, and loyal friend who has made a difference in the lives of all those she has touched; and

Whereas, she and her husband, John, were a working family and farmers who strived very hard to raise their family and afford their children a chance to realize the American dream. In this effort, John C. and Lillie Devlin were very successful. Of their seven surviving children, six earned college degrees. Of the six, three earned master degrees and one earned a Ph.D. degree; and

Whereas, Mrs. Devlin is a truly amazing woman of courage and conviction who has devoted her life to her church, family, and community, and who throughout her life has been sustained by the power of prayer and faith; and

Whereas, she will be honored at a birthday celebration on April 8, 2006, and this celebration will reflect on and honor her life which embodies the American tradition of faith, hard work, and accomplishment; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the members of the South Carolina General Assembly pause to reflect on the rich life of Mrs. Lillie Patton Devlin, a lifelong resident of Greenwood County, and join with her family members and many friends in wishing her a most happy birthday. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly honor and recognize Mrs. Lillie Patton Devlin, a lifelong resident of Greenwood County, on the occasion of her ninetieth birthday and extend best wishes to her for many more to come.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Lillie Patton Devlin.
