A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE PROFESSOR CHRISTINE P. CROSBY OF YORK COUNTY ON BEING NAMED THE 2005 GOVERNOR'S PROFESSOR OF THE YEAR FROM TWO-YEAR INSTITUTIONS AND TO RECOGNIZE HER FOR TWENTY-SEVEN YEARS OF EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING AND PUBLIC SERVICE.

Whereas, Mrs. Christine P. Crosby, an alumnus of York Technical College and a long-term faculty member, joins an elite group of university and college faculty members who have been recognized for their exceptional teaching performance by being named the 2005 Governor's Professor of the Year from two-year institutions; and

Whereas, each year the Governor and the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education jointly sponsor two Governor's Professor of the Year Awards. One of these awards is conferred on a faculty member at a South Carolina public or private senior college or university, and the other is conferred on a faculty member at a two-year institution of higher learning; and

Whereas, the Governor's Professor of the Year Award was created to show appreciation for the dedication and hard work one has devoted toward educating the students at South Carolina's institutions for higher learning; and

Whereas, Mrs. Crosby graduated from York Technical College in 1975 with an associate degree in accounting. She received a master's degree in business education from Winthrop University and also took an additional eighteen hours in accounting at Winthrop and the University of South Carolina; and

Whereas, Professor Crosby began her cherished career in 1977 with the accounting department at York Technical College, where she later became a full-time accounting professor and currently remains a member of the faculty. She was promoted to program manager of the accounting department in 1994 and served in that capacity until September 2005; and

Whereas, sharing her exceptional gift of educating the principles of accounting to inquiring minds, Mrs. Crosby has taught courses for the Medical University of South Carolina, the American Payroll Association, Central Piedmont Community College, and York Technical College's Continuing Education Division; and

Whereas, Professor Crosby has been rewarded on numerous occasions for her outstanding talent and ability to teach over the past twenty-seven years. She was selected as a member of Who's Who Among America's Teachers in 2002, 2003, and 2004, and was a recipient of the President's Award for Exemplary Service in 2005, and the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society's Excellence in Teaching Award in 2002. She also received the Phi Beta Lambda State Advisor of the Year Award in 1990; and

Whereas, a professor who is appreciated and respected by all her peers and students for the quality and intensity she brings to the classroom, Mrs. Crosby's student evaluations speak volumes of her excellence, consistently rating her as one of the top professors; and

Whereas, Mrs. Crosby also has been recognized for her excellence in public service outside the classroom. She has served as state and local advisor for Phi Beta Lambda for more than seventeen years and has traveled with PBL members all over the country, where they have successfully competed against two-year and four-year colleges in various subjects such as accounting, business law, management, and computer technology; and

Whereas, she received the Shining Star Award in 2000 from South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice for outstanding service to the youth of the community and also received the Rock Hill Womanfest Verve Award in 2002 for outstanding community service; and

Whereas, Mrs. Crosby has served as board member of the Central City Optimist Club's Just Say No to Drugs Program and Big Brother/Big Sister Program. She also was chairperson for the Optimist Club's Scholarship Committee and Essay Contest Program for several years and received the Optimist of the Month Award in 2002; and

Whereas, Professor Crosby's strong belief in God helped lead her to found and direct the Phenomenal Young Ladies Club, Inc. (PYLC), which helps teenage girls develop character, set career goals, and develop Christian values. She is also co-founder and co-director of Living for Jesus Family Life Ministry, a ministry that helps hurting couples and families; and

Whereas, Christine Crosby lives in Rock Hill, where she is happily married to Dr. Charles A. Crosby and is the proud mother of four wonderful children: Milajurine (Twan), Tammy, Chondra, and Charles, Jr. Now, therefore,

Be it further resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate Professor Christine P. Crosby of York County on being named the 2005 Governor's Professor of the Year from two-year institutions and recognize her for twenty-seven years of excellence in teaching and public service.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Professor Christine P. Crosby.
