A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE BROOME HIGH SCHOOL BOYS TRACK TEAM OF SPARTANBURG COUNTY ON CAPTURING THE 2006 AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO HONOR ITS ATHLETES AND COACHES ON AN OUTSTANDING SEASON.

Whereas, composed of talented athletes, who performed with great strength, endurance, and speed, the Broome High School Track Team captured the state title at the 2006 AA State Championship Track Meet, marking the seventh year in which the Centurions have finished as state champions or state runner-up; and

Whereas, under the able guidance and tutelage of Head Coach Skip Frye and his staff, the team spent countless afternoons training and conditioning in preparation for competing at the highest level; and

Whereas, the Centurions responded to their coaches' intense workouts and long practices by pushing themselves to the limit, scoring 105 points in the championship meet, while outscoring the next closest team by 51 points as they led Broome to a second consecutive State Championship and the fourth state title in the program's history; and

Whereas, Markish Jones helped lead the team to impressive results, while significantly contributing to his own individual performances, winning the 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, and the long jump; and

Whereas, other team members pushed the Centurions to the top with their stellar individual performances. D. J. Moore took second place in the long jump, the high jump, and the triple jump. Stefan Shealy won the 3200 meter run and was fifth in the 1600 meter run. Tamik Foster grabbed a fourth place in the 110 high hurdles. Antonio Thomas placed sixth in the triple jump, while A. J. Woodard finished eighth. Also Scottie Armstrong finished fifth in the shot put and Adrian Hill was fifth in the long jump; and

Whereas, the 4x800 relay team of Jeremy Vangsnes, Antonio Thomas, Cameron Gammons, and Stefan Shealy placed third, and the 4x400 relay team of Antonio Thomas, Chris Drake, Mark James, and Tamik Foster placed fifth; and

Whereas, the Broome High School Boys Track Team could not have achieved such amazing success without the dedicated effort and coaching skill and talent of Head Coach Skip Frye and Assistant Coaches Deon Kelly, Jahmaal Nelson, Doug Purinton, Gary Purinton, and Steve Wilson; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly take great pride in the success and triumphs of the Broome High School Track Team and wish them continued success in all their future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate the Broome High School Boys Track Team of Spartanburg County on capturing the 2006 AA State Championship and honor its athletes and Coaches on an outstanding season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Broome High School Boys Track Team.
