A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE JOHN TINDAL, SUPERINTENDENT OF CLARENDON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT TWO, FOR RECEIVING THE RURAL EDUCATION AWARD AND TO COMMEND HIM FOR HIS CONTINUING DEDICATION AND COMMITMENT TO IMPROVING PUBLIC EDUCATION IN RURAL SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, Clarendon County School District Two Superintendent John Tindal was honored with the Rural Education Award at the Rural Summit Awards held in North Charleston on March 6, 2006; and

Whereas, the Rural Education Award recognizes an individual who has improved South Carolina's rural education system either through volunteer efforts or through daily commitments; and

Whereas, Tindal previously served as State District Superintendent for Allendale County Schools when the State Board of Education declared a state of emergency and authorized the State Superintendent of Education to assume state management of Allendale County's schools, naming Tindal to take on this challenging role; and

Whereas, during his tenure as superintendent, Tindal has made great strides for Clarendon District Two, receiving more than three million dollars in student scholarships and a "Jobs for South Carolina Graduates" grant of one hundred thousand dollars, while eighteen of the district's teachers gained National Board Certification; and

Whereas, Tindal also was in charge of overseeing a two and a half million dollar renovation project at Manning Primary School that was designed to create a school environment more conducive to learning; and

Whereas, Tindal has established himself as a leader in the effort to improve education in this State, advancing the cause with his command of the issues, his knowledge of the law, and his innovate approaches; and

Whereas, his sincere concern for the children and commitment to improving the public school system has energized him to work long hours under tireless conditions, demonstrating his strong work ethic and unparalleled dedication; and

Whereas, Tindal shows great appreciation to all who work in education, and at the Rural Summit Awards ceremony he recognized the entire district for their contributions to the success of Clarendon District Two schools stating that "the Rural Education Award is an honor to all of the people in Clarendon Two School District, including the board of trustees"; and

Whereas, there is no one more deserving of an award recognizing an individual's efforts in improving South Carolina's rural education and no one is more respected by his colleagues and peers than John Tindal. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate John Tindal, Superintendent of Clarendon County School District Two for receiving the Rural Education Award and commend him for his continuing dedication and commitment to improving public education in rural South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to John Tindal.
