A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE INDIAN LAND HIGH SCHOOL LADY WARRIORS SOFTBALL TEAM OF LANCASTER COUNTY ON ITS OUTSTANDING WIN OF THE 2006 CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS AND COACH MONICA BARFIELD ON AN EXCEPTIONAL SEASON.

Whereas, excellence in softball demands individual strength, agility, and skill, as well as team play and good sportsmanship; and

Whereas, using those talents and attributes, Coach Monica Barfield and the members of the Indian Land High School Lady Warriors softball team of Lancaster County capped their incredible 27-9 season by winning the Class A State Softball Championship; and

Whereas, defeating Latta High School in two out of three games to take the state title, players stayed calm and focused and kept their momentum during tough plays; and

Whereas, the team defeated McBee High School in a doubleheader to capture the Upper State title; and

Whereas, the taste of victory is nothing new for the school, as this year's win marks the seventh consecutive softball championship; and

Whereas, the team's amazing athletes included Paige Brugh, Kristen Campbell, Kimber Coley, Hannah Cooke, Jacquelyn Delaune, Alyssa Hartley, Alisha Kennerly, Alexandria Lucia, Samantha Rice, Ashley Vitek, and Stephanis Vitek; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly take great pride in commending the young women of the Indian Land High School Lady Warriors softball team of Lancaster County for their tireless efforts and great determination in an outstanding season and recognize them as veritable model student athletes. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the Indian Land High School Lady Warriors softball team of Lancaster County on its outstanding win of the 2006 Class A State Championship and honor the players and Coach Monica Barfield on an exceptional season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the players, coaches, and other school officials of the Indian Land High School Lady Warriors softball team.
