A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND COMMEND THE LATE MARY OATES GREGORIE FOR HER EXTRAORDINARY SERVICE AND LIFETIME COMMITMENT TO THE CITIZENS OF PICKENS COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the Senate recognize those individuals who have used their talents to benefit the citizens of the Palmetto State and have dedicated their time and energy to helping others; and

Whereas, Mary Oates Gregorie, a native of Easley, South Carolina, was a prominent business woman and civic leader who worked tirelessly to contribute to her community; and

Whereas, Mrs. Gregorie served as one of the founding foundation board members for the Palmetto Health Baptist Easley Foundation from 1988 until her untimely death from cancer in 2000, helping to improve the hospital and expand its services to Pickens County residents; and

Whereas, as Chairperson and board member of the Pickens County Library System, she established the Easley Friends of the Library and devoted her time, energy, and enthusiasm toward the success of the library for seventeen years; and

Whereas, as an active member of First United Methodist Church in Easley, she served on the Pastor/Parrish Relations Committee and was the first female board member in church history. She also served as an adult Sunday School teacher and a youth group advisor; and

Whereas, among her various awards and honors, Mrs. Gregorie was recognized with the Small Business Person of the Year Award in 1986, by the Greater Easley Chamber of Commerce, and the Trustee Award, presented by the Friends of the South Carolina Libraries; and

Whereas, Mary's integrity, grace, and caring nature served as an example to all and she is remembered as an invaluable asset to her community; and

Whereas, the members of the Senate express their sincere gratitude to the late Mary Oates Gregorie for her loyal service to the citizens of Pickens County; and

Whereas, even though her presence is greatly missed, her generosity will continue to benefit the citizens of this State for years to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That, by this resolution, the members of the Senate honor and commend the late Mary Oates Gregorie for her extraordinary service and lifetime commitment to the citizens of Pickens County, South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of the late Mary Oates Gregorie and that the original resolution be placed in a room dedicated to Mrs. Gregorie in the Captain Kimberly Hampton Memorial Library in Pickens.
