TO RECOGNIZE AND TO CONGRATULATE MRS. ESTHER OWENS COPE OF AIKEN COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA ON BEING ELECTED PRESIDENT GENERAL OF THE UNITED DAUGHTERS OF THE CONFEDERACY AND TO WISH HER BEST WISHES IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, Esther Owens Cope, a resident of Aiken County, South Carolina, has been elected President General of the United Daughters of the Confederacy; and
Whereas, Mrs. Cope joined the United Daughters of the Confederacy in 1984, based on the service of her Great Grandfather John Littleton Owens, and is also a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution where she has served in numerous offices and on the Board of Trustees, and
Whereas, among her many awards and honors, Mrs. Cope was presented the Order of the Palmetto, the highest civilian award, by the Governor of South Carolina; and
Whereas, she married Winfred Dennis Cope in 1963 and together they have two children, Darlene Williams and Bruce Cope, and four grandchildren; and
Whereas, the members of the Senate would like to recognize Esther Owens Cope for her many years of service to the United Daughters of the Confederacy and to the Daughters of the American Revolution. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate Mrs. Esther Owens Cope of Aiken County, South Carolina on being elected President General of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and wish her best wishes in all her future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Esther Owens Cope of Aiken.
