VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND JOHN N. HARDEE OF COLUMBIA FOR HIS OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND FOR HIS DILIGENT AND DEDICATED SERVICE AS A MEMBER OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION.
Whereas, John N. Hardee of Columbia currently serves as a member of the South Carolina Transportation Commission representing the 2nd Congressional District, which includes Beaufort, Jasper, Hampton, Allendale, Barnwell, Lexington, and portions of Richland, Calhoun, Orangeburg, and Aiken Counties and covers nearly five thousand square miles; and
Whereas, he represents close to eight thousand miles of highways and interstates and nine thousand bridges maintained by the Department of Transportation, and his district also operates approximately one thousand vehicles ranging from cars to heavy equipment; and
Whereas, in 1995, John Hardee was appointed by Governor Beasley to represent the State on the Scenic Highways Committee, where he served as Chairman form 1995 until 1998. Through his leadership, the committee drafted the regulations that established the criteria for Scenic Highways; and
Whereas, Governor Beasley awarded Commissioner Hardee the Order of the Palmetto in 1998 for his exceptional contributions to the field of transportation as a member of the Transportation Commission and the Scenic Highways Committee; and
Whereas, in January of 2000, Commissioner Hardee was recognized as one of five men of the decade by Columbia Metropolitan magazine; and
Whereas, Commissioner Hardee also was honored when the South Carolina Transportation Commission voted to name the proposed seven-mile airport connector road between I-20 and I-26 in Lexington County as the John N. Hardee Airport Expressway, in recognition of his efforts to obtain funds for the project; and
Whereas, Commissioner Hardee served as President of the Outdoor Advertising Association of South Carolina from 1989 until 2003, and currently is the Director of Governmental Affairs for Lamar Advertising; and
Whereas, the service that Commissioner Hardee has provided to the State and to his native town of Loris truly has made him one of the State's most outstanding citizens more than worthy of recognition and applause. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and commend John N. Hardee of Columbia for his outstanding service to the State of South Carolina and for his diligent and dedicated service as a member of the South Carolina Transportation Commission.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Commissioner John. N. Hardee of Columbia.
