TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE JOHN E. PALMER, JR. OF OCONEE COUNTY FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE OCONEE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT, TO THANK HIM FOR HIS COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION, AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO HIM IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, John E. Palmer, Jr. was employed for the School District of Oconee County for over twenty-three years before he retired from being a full time staff member in 2001, and today continues to work for the school district on a part time basis, showing his dedication and love for the students and faculty there; and
Whereas, Mr. Palmer was born on October 24, 1939 in Seneca, and graduated from Seneca High School in 1958; and
Whereas, he joined the United States Air Force in March of 1959 and served for twenty-three years until he was honorably discharged in 1982; and
Whereas, he graduated from North Greenville College with an Associate's Degree in Education, then graduated Cum Laude from Central Wesleyan College in 1985, with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Studies; and
Whereas, Mr. Palmer has earned credits towards a Master's Degree by attending classes at Clemson University, University of South Carolina, Furman University, and Eastern Washington State University; and
Whereas, Mr. Palmer has given his time and talents to many organizations throughout the years, including the American Legion, which he joined in 1987, the Southern Appalachian Initiative on Cancer for Women in Oconee County, where he is still a member, the Tri-County Volunteer Association for Administrators, and has served two terms in the Greater Seneca Chamber of Commerce; and
Whereas, among his various awards, Mr. Palmer was given the honor of receiving the Order of the Palmetto from Governor David Beasley in 1996, the Cross of Military Service in Vietnam from the Daughters of the Confederacy in 1991, and was awarded the United Way's volunteer of the year award in 2004; and
Whereas, he and his wife Betty were blessed with one daughter, Deborah; and
Whereas, Mr. Palmer served as literacy coordinator, classroom teacher, and administrator during his tenure with the Oconee County School District and was selected as teacher of the year in 1990; and
Whereas it is fitting and proper that we recognize Mr. Palmer for dedicating himself to educating the children of South Carolina and thank him for his service to our state. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That, the members of the Senate, by this resolution, honor and recognize John E. Palmer, Jr. of Oconee County for his many years of dedicated service, thank him for his commitment to education, and extend best wishes to him in all his future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. John E. Palmer, Jr.
