A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE MRS. RUBY WOODS CARTER OF DILLON COUNTY FOR HER MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND A LIFETIME OF SERVICE TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, Mrs. Ruby Woods Carter was born and educated in Allendale County before entering Spellman College and graduating at only nineteen years of age. She later earned her Masters degree from South Carolina State University; and

Whereas, Mrs. Carter came to Dillon County to teach in the fall of 1949. Beginning as an elementary school teacher, she soon became a basketball coach and produced several championship teams. Later, she taught in the secondary department and became a class advisor; and

Whereas, in 1994, she retired as a school teacher, but continued to remain active in many other areas of life, serving on the Dillon County Library Board, the St. Eugene Advisory Board, the Alcohol and Drug Commission, the Dillon County Arts Council, and the Dillon Inter-Agency Council; and

Whereas, Mrs. Carter has served as District President of the Marion District United Methodist Women and South Carolina Conference of Methodist Women. Also, she has been a member of the South Atlantic Regional School for United Methodist Women, and is active in the district activities for the churches of the Marion District; and

Whereas, she has received numerous awards and commendations through the years, and was featured in the May 2002 issue of the Trustee Magazine which is the national magazine for the American Hospital Association; and

Whereas, it is fitting and proper for the members of the Senate to recognize the many accomplishments of this great daughter of the Palmetto State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by The Senate:

That the members of the State of South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, hereby express their gratitude and appreciation to Mrs. Ruby Woods Carter of Dillon County for her many accomplishments and a lifetime of service to the State of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Ruby Woods Carter.
