A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE MARION COUNTY TECHNICAL EDUCATION CENTER ROBOTICS TEAM ON ITS IMPRESSIVE VICTORY AT THE FIRST ROBOTICS PALMETTO REGIONAL COMPETITION, AND TO WISH ITS PLAYERS AND MENTORS THE BEST IN ALL FUTURE COMPETITION.

Whereas, refusing to give up after technical malfunctions led to poor performance at the Florida Regional, the Marion County Robotics Team, Team 1051, qualified as number forty-six out of forty-seven competing teams, but was chosen to compete in the twenty-four team elimination tournament; and

Whereas, also during the Florida Regional, Team 1051 received the prestigious Judges Award; and

Whereas, the dogged determination of the entire team led them to be victors of the Palmetto Regional, which allowed the team to compete in the multinational FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition in Atlanta; and

Whereas, comprised of members from three county high schools and volunteers from Marion County Technical Education Center, local businesses, Florence-Darlington Technical College, and Francis Marion University, Team 1051 is truly a collaborative community effort, allowing students from rural Marion County the opportunity to work and travel with professionals for real-world experiences; and

Whereas, Team 1051 has reached out into the greater Marion community and the Pee Dee Region, hosting the Marion Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours, challenging its mentor team to an ice hockey match, and putting on demonstrations for community and school meetings; and

Whereas, membership on Team 1051 allows students to believe more in themselves in order to achieve higher goals; gives students confidence and allows them to share that confidence with other students throughout the county and Pee Dee area; and allows students to grow in a fun environment while learning and working as a team to reach a common goal; and

Whereas, Marion County and the State of South Carolina as a whole take great pride in the outstanding accomplishments of Team 1051, applaud its members for their extraordinary follow-through, and expect great things from it in the future. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina State Senate, by this resolution, congratulate the Marion County Technical Education Center Robotics Team on its impressive victory at the FIRST Robotics Palmetto Regional Competition, and wish its players and mentors the best in all future competition.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Marion County Technical Education Center Robotics Team.
