A BILL

TO AMEND ACT 591 OF 1994, RELATING TO THE GEORGETOWN COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS AND REGISTRATION, SO AS TO GIVE THE GEORGETOWN LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION THE SOLE APPOINTIVE POWERS FOR MEMBERS OF THE GEORGETOWN COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS AND REGISTRATION INSTEAD OF BEING APPOINTED BY THE GOVERNOR UPON RECOMMENDATION OF THE GEORGETOWN COUNTY LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section (A)(1) of Act 591 of 1994 is amended to read:

"(1)    There is created the Georgetown County Board of Elections and Registration. There are nine members of the board who must be appointed by the Governor upon the recommendation of the senatorial delegation and at least half of the members of the House of Representatives who represent Georgetown County for terms of four years until their successors are appointed and qualify except that of those first appointed, four must be appointed for initial terms of two years each, the initial terms of all members to be designated by the appointing authority."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
