TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-111-25 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT A PERSON WHO SERVES ACTIVE DUTY IN THE MILITARY IS ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE A STATE SCHOLARSHIP UNTIL THE AGE OF THIRTY PURSUANT TO CERTAIN CONDITIONS AND TO DEFINE STATE SCHOLARSHIP.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Article 1, Chapter 111, Title 59 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 59-111-25(A). A person who serves active duty in a branch of the military is eligible to receive a state scholarship until the age of thirty, provided that the person:
(1) meets the residency requirements of Chapter 112 of this title;
(2) is a member in good standing of the armed forces or has been honorably discharged from service; and
(3) otherwise qualifies for the scholarship.
(B) As used in this section, 'state scholarship' includes a scholarship established pursuant to this chapter, a Palmetto Fellows Scholarship established pursuant to Section 59-104-20, a LIFE Scholarship established pursuant to Chapter 149 of this title, or a scholarship established pursuant to Chapter 150 of this title."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
