A HOUSE RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING THE STUDENTS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GOVERNOR'S SCHOOL FOR SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS FOR STRIVING TO REACH THE FULL MEASURE OF THEIR TALENTS AND ABILITIES AND FOR RECEIVING THE PALMETTO GOLD AWARD.

Whereas, the South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics creates an environment that fosters the ability to develop innovative ideas; and

Whereas, students learn from and teach each other in an atmosphere that encourages individual experience while also developing a community of scholars and leaders; and

Whereas, although intellectual growth in science and mathematics is emphasized, the curriculum also encourages thoughtful development in the humanities; and

Whereas, dedication characterizes the faculty members, about half of whom hold doctorates in their field. This dedication, by both the students and faculty, directly leads to many honors, including the Palmetto Gold Award for high standards of academic excellence; and

Whereas, training at the Governor's School prepares students to make the most of future opportunities for higher education; and

Whereas, the students complete an independent science project, focusing on laboratory research or field work, with access to advanced laboratories for biology, chemistry, physics, and computer science; and

Whereas, graduates of the South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics have excelled in numerous fields greatly benefiting the entire State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize the students of the South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics for striving to reach the full measure of their talents and abilities and for receiving the Palmetto Gold Award.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the administration, faculty, and students of the South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics.
