To whom was referred a Bill (H. 3740) to amend Act 239 of 1981, as amended, relating to the election of the Board of Trustees for School District No. 1 in Florence County, so as to reapportion, etc., respectfully

A BILL

TO AMEND ACT 239 OF 1981, AS AMENDED, RELATING TO THE ELECTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES FOR SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 1 IN FLORENCE COUNTY, SO AS TO REAPPORTION THE ELECTION DISTRICTS FROM WHICH TRUSTEES ARE ELECTED; AND TO DESIGNATE A MAP NUMBER FOR THE MAP ON WHICH THESE LINES OF THE ELECTION DISTRICTS FOR TRUSTEES ARE DELINEATED AND MAINTAINED BY THE OFFICE OF RESEARCH AND STATISTICS OF THE STATE BUDGET AND CONTROL BOARD.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Act 239 of 1981, as last amended by Act 601 of 1986, is further amended by adding:

"Section 1A.    Beginning with the election conducted in 2005, the nine trustees of School District No. 1 of Florence County must be elected from the election districts by the qualified electors of that district which are shown on the official map designated as S-41-01-05 prepared by and on file with the Office of Research and Statistics of the State Budget and Control Board. The Office of Research and Statistics of the State Budget and Control Board shall provide a certified copy of the map to the school district and the Florence County Registration and Election Commission. The official map must not be changed except by an act of the General Assembly or by a court of competent jurisdiction."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
