A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 57-3-617 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION MUST IMPOSE TOLLS ALONG THE STATE'S HIGHWAYS TO FUND THE COST OF IMPROVEMENTS ALONG THE STATE'S HIGHWAYS, AND TO PROVIDE THAT THE AMOUNT OF THE TOLLS MUST BE DETERMINED BY THE STATE BUDGET AND CONTROL BOARD.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Article 7, Chapter 3, Title 57 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 57-3-617.    (A)    Notwithstanding another provision of law, the Department of Transportation shall impose tolls along all interstate highways, United States Highways, and county roads to fund the cost of repairs and improvements of the State's existing highways and to fund the cost of construction of new highways in the State.

(B)    The amount of the tolls must be determined by the State Budget and Control Board".

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect on January 1, 2007.
