A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE MR. R. DOGGETT WHITAKER, JR., OF NEWBERRY FOR HIS SELECTION AS PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL FUNERAL DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION FOR 2004-2005 AND TO COMMEND HIM FOR HIS SERVICE TO HIS PROFESSION AND TO HIS COMMUNITY AND STATE.

Whereas, R. Doggett Whitaker, Jr., of Newberry is the 2004-2005 National President of the National Funeral Directors Association; and

Whereas, the National Funeral Directors Association, headquartered in Brookfield, Wisconsin, is the largest funeral service association in the United States, with more than twenty-one thousand four hundred individual members who represent more than twelve thousand four hundred funeral homes; and

Whereas, Doggett Whitaker was installed as national president during the association's 2004 convention and expo held in Nashville, Tennessee, October 17-20, 2004; and

Whereas, he is a Certified Funeral Service Practitioner and is President of Whitaker Funeral Homes located in Newberry and Chapin and served as State President of the South Carolina Funeral Directors Association for the term 1994-1995; and

Whereas, he is a second generation funeral director and embalmer for more than thirty years, was born in Columbia on May 5, 1947, the son of the late Roy Doggett Whitaker and the late Essie (Toots) Caughman Whitaker of Newberry, and is a 1970 graduate of North Carolina State University, and a 1971 graduate of Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science; and

Whereas, Doggett Whitaker, a distinguished and dedicated Newberrian, is active in civic and community affairs in the City and County of Newberry, having served as President of the Newberry Lions Club, and chairman of the Congregational Council of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer; and

Whereas, he is married to the former Christie Crowder, and they are the proud parents of four talented daughters: Shayne, Alexis, Erin, and Nikki; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize this truly outstanding South Carolinian for his selection to this prestigious office and extend to him best wishes for a very successful tenure as National Funeral Directors Association President. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives congratulate Mr. R. Doggett Whitaker, Jr., of Newberry for his selection as President of the National Funeral Directors Association for 2004-2005 and commend him for his service to his profession and to his community and State.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. R. Doggett Whitaker, Jr.
