A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR LUCY WILLIAMS GIBSON FOR HER EXTRAORDINARY LIFE AND LOVE FOR HER FAMILY AND COMMUNITY, AND TO WISH HER ALL THE BEST UPON HER ONE-HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY.

Whereas, Lucy Williams Gibson was born on April 15, 1906 and has lived a remarkable one hundred years; and

Whereas, the second of ten children, she became a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church in 1922 and was baptized in a water stream across the road from the church, as during her early years there was no indoor plumbing, baptismal pool, or electricity inside the church; and

Whereas, a loving wife and mother, Mrs. Gibson was married to J.D. Gibson in 1932, and together they had eight children. Losing Mr. Gibson to an early death at the age of 40, Mrs. Gibson raised her eight children alone, often remarking that the "Lord will make a way somehow" in providing for her family; and

Whereas, teaching her children to work as a team, Mrs. Gibson instilled values of honesty, integrity, and compassion in her children and always took her family to church; and

Whereas, though now unable to attend church services, Mrs. Gibson was a faithful attendant of Rehoboth Baptist Church before becoming home bound and stands as the oldest member of her church community; and

Whereas, Mrs. Gibson has survived six of her children and all but one of her siblings. She enjoys her fourteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and ten great-great grandchildren; and

Whereas, remembering always, "the Lord will not put more on me than I can bear", Mrs. Gibson's resolve to make the most of her life is inspiring and heartening to all who know her. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor Lucy Williams Gibson for her extraordinary life and love for her family and community, and wish her the best upon her one-hundredth birthday.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Lucy Williams Gibson.
