TO RECOGNIZE BISHOP EDWARD SMITH, PASTOR OF THE PROGRESSIVE CHURCH OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, INC., FOR HIS OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP IN THE CHURCH AND COMMUNITY ON PASTOR APPRECIATION DAY, AND DECLARE FEBRUARY 27, 2005, AS BISHOP EDWARD SMITH DAY.
Whereas, Bishop Edward Smith has prayerfully led the Progressive Church of our Lord Jesus Christ, Inc., since 1987, when he became the third Presiding Bishop and Pastor of the Headquarters Church in Columbia; and
Whereas, during Bishop Smith's faithful tenure, the Headquarters Church and the National Church have prospered and have seen tremendous growth in membership, and new churches have been established throughout the southeast; and
Whereas, Bishop Smith not only leads two thriving churches, but also provides counsel and advice to the various pastors, elders, and ministers who serve the church; and
Whereas, Bishop Smith receives his support from the Lord and from his wife of over fifty years, Sister Edna M. Friday. They have three children, Elder William E. Smith, David N. Smith, and Joyce D. Grimes, and three grandchildren; and
Whereas, it is with great pleasure and admiration that the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina pause in their deliberations to commend such a fine South Carolinian as Pastor Bishop Edward Smith of Progressive Church. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize Bishop Edward Smith, Pastor of the Progressive Church of our Lord Jesus Christ, Inc., for his outstanding leadership in the church and community on Pastor Appreciation Day, and declare February 27, 2005, as Bishop Edward Smith Day.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Pastor Bishop Edward Smith.
