THE COMMITTEE ON CORRECTIONS AND PENOLOGY

To whom was referred a Joint Resolution (S. 719) to provide that the Department of Corrections may utilize inmate labor until July 1, 2007, during the construction or renovation, or both, of a food service facility, etc., respectfully

REPORT:

That they have duly and carefully considered the same and recommend that the same do pass:

A JOINT RESOLUTION

TO PROVIDE THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS MAY UTILIZE INMATE LABOR UNTIL JULY 1, 2007, DURING THE CONSTRUCTION OR RENOVATION, OR BOTH, OF A FOOD SERVICE FACILITY AT THE STEVENSON CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION AND THE RELOCATION OF A HOUSING UNIT FROM THE FORMER GREENWOOD WORK RELEASE FACILITY TO THE STEVENSON CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    The Department of Corrections may utilize inmate labor until July 1, 2007, to perform any portion of the construction or renovation, or both, of a food service facility at the Stevenson Correctional Institution and the relocation of a ninety-six bed housing unit from the former Greenwood work release facility to the Stevenson Correctional Institution.

SECTION    2.    This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
