A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR JOHN R. CLARKE, ESQUIRE, OF HORRY COUNTY, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS SIXTIETH BIRTHDAY, AND TO WISH HIM SUCCESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to learn that March 25, 2008, will mark the sixtieth birthday of John R. Clarke, which will be celebrated at a fete with friends and loved ones; and

Whereas, born in Washington, D. C., to Mr. and Mrs. John William Clarke on March 25, 1948, John R. Clarke finished high school in Alexandria, Virginia, and furthered his education at the University of South Carolina with a bachelor of arts in 1970 and a doctor of jurisprudence in 1973; and

Whereas, he was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 1973 and also admitted to practice before the United States District Court, District of South Carolina; the United States Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit; and the United States Supreme Court; and

Whereas, in 1974, John Clarke moved to North Myrtle Beach and shared an office with John Horne until 1976. Then he ventured out on his own, specializing in criminal law, worker's compensation, and tort law continuing to practice until 2006; and

Whereas, he has been a member of the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association, the Southern Trial Lawyers Association, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers; and

Whereas, he was a member of the litigation committee for the Horry County Bar Association in 1986, a member of the criminal and tort law sections for the American Bar Association, and a member of South Carolina Bar House of Delegates in 1992 and of the Nominating Committee since 1996; and

Whereas, he served as the vice chairman of the Public Defenders Corporation for Horry County from 1976-1977, as a board member from the Sixth Congressional District appointed by the Governor to the Occupational Health and Safety Review Board from 1989-1994, and as a judge advocate for the South Carolina District of Civitan from 1992-2002; and

Whereas, John Clarke is the proud father of two adoring daughters and two beloved granddaughters, who bring great joy and happiness to him, and in spite of serious illness, he has an office staff that continues his legacy of service to his community; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to celebrate this milestone of his sixtieth birthday with John R. Clarke, Esquire, and to mark his many years of distinguished service to the citizens of Horry County. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, honor John R. Clarke, Esquire, of Horry County, upon the occasion of his sixtieth birthday, and wish him success in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to John R. Clarke, Esquire.
