A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE WARDLAW ACADEMY GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM, OF EDGEFIELD COUNTY, FOR CAPTURING THE 2008 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND TO CONGRATULATE THE TEAM'S EXCEPTIONAL PLAYERS, COACHES, AND STAFF ON AN OUTSTANDING SEASON.

Whereas, the Wardlaw Academy girls basketball team defeated Laurens Academy 41-27 on March 1, 2008, to capture the 2008 South Carolina Independent School Association Class A State Championship title; and

Whereas, with grueling practices, hard work, and determination, Coach Kathy James and her assistant coach, Travis Plowden, built their basketball program into a championship team; and

Whereas, this crowning victory caps a perfect 28-0 season for the Lady Patriots and, as their seventh state championship win, proves the team to be a perennial powerhouse to be reckoned with; and

Whereas, in further recognition for the Lady Patriots, team member Elizabeth Stone was selected to the All-Tournament team and named Region Player of the Year, as well as SCISA Class A Player of the Year; and

Whereas, the Lady Patriots have brought great pride and recognition to their school and community, and the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize such a wonderful group of young women. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Wardlaw Academy girls basketball team, of Edgefield County, for capturing the 2008 South Carolina Independent School Association Class A State Championship title, and congratulate the team's exceptional players, coaches, and staff on an outstanding season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Headmaster Ben Couch and Coach Kathy James, of Wardlaw Academy.
